Industrial cables cover a broad range of applications within the automation and manufacturing industries. Commonly labelled as European control cables, this range encompasses both LSZH and PVC insulated and sheathed cables. Whilst covering a range of applications, they share characteristics in being robust and designed for moving, flexing machinery rather than fixed installations.
Industrial cable applications
These cables are used for applications such as the control of conveyors in production facilities, in food and beverage plants, for monitoring equipment in chemical plants, and in clean rooms. The choice of cable sheathing is tailored to the type of installation:
PVC - The most commonly used sheathing material in continental Europe and hence prevalent in European control cables. This includes control cables for power applications such as the YSLCY 0.6/1kV cable (CY) and the YSLY 0.6/1kV cable (YY).
LSZH - For cables used around sensitive equipment that could be damaged in the event of a fire, a low smoke zero halogen sheathing is often recommended. Commonly used cables include the LiHH cable and the tinned copper wire braid equivalent, LiHCH cable, as well as the H05RR-F cable. Silicone sheathing for high temperature cable applications are also classified as LSZH.
PUR - Polyurethane cables, including the Powerchain PUR, PUR-JZ Control, and Industrial Ethernet Cat 7 PUR cable, are commonly used in clean rooms and chemical plants as the sheathing doesn't harbour bacteria and so prevents the spread around a facility. The robust nature of the sheathing prevents tears and is resistant to most chemicals and oils.
Working with the Veriflex range
This wider industrial range complements our BSI Kitemark tested Veriflex range of cables, including SY, CY, YY control cables, PUR and Servo Motor cables, and a fieldbus application cables. They are all designed to and our range of cable accessories including Hummel glands. Your projects and applications require a broad range of cables and by sourcing all your requirements through Eland Cables you can be assured not only of timely logistics in line with your project deadlines, but of assured quality and compliance.
Technical Support for Industrial Cables
As with all cable applications, our technical experts are available to support specification queries, providing recommendations on the most appropriate cable, and cable sheathing material, for your installation. In the event that the portfolio of industrial cables does not have meet the needs of your application, The Cable Lab can support customisation along with testing and manufacture.
