XLPE/SWA & XLPE/AWA - PVC & LSZH Cables

Eland Cables is a leading supplier of BASEC-approved low and medium voltage armoured cables manufactured in accordance with British Standard BS5467, BS6724, BS6622 and BS7835. This includes single core XLPE/PVC/AWA/PVC and multicore XLPE/PVC/SWA/PVC with a voltage rating of 0.6/1kV, 3.8/6.6kV, 6.35/11kV and 19/33kV. It also includes single core XLPE/LSZH/AWA/LSZH and multicore XLPE/LSZH/SWA/LSZH with the same voltage rating.

The range of hard-wearing steel wire armour (SWA) and aluminium wire armour (AWA) XLPE insulated cables is manufactured in accordance with IEC 60502 and is designed for use in applications where there is a risk of mechanical stress and where protection is required against mechanical damage. It is commonly used for the supply of mains electricity and for auxiliary control cables in diverse environments including aerial power networks, direct burial in free draining soil, outdoors, indoors, underground systems and in cable ducting. These cables are suitable for use clipped directly onto a surface, on a tray, in a basket or in free air.

This range of armoured cables is often referred to as mains power cable, booklet and non-booklet armoured cable. The single core version of this cable is armoured with aluminium wires (AWA) to prevent induced current in the armour. The multicore versions are armoured with galvanised steel wires (SWA) and are available in a wide range of conductors. This XLPE insulated range is available with a UV-stable PVC outersheath or with an outersheath with low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) properties for applications where the emission of smoke and toxic fumes could create a serious threat to life and sensitive equipment in the event of fire.

When exposed to fire, the LSZH materials emit very low levels of smoke and non-toxic levels of halogen gas (typically under 0.5% HCl emission)
