Elastomer insulated cables for fixed wiring in ships and on mobile and fixed offshore units manufactured in accordance with British Standard BS6883
British Standard BS6883 covers the specifications for the shipboard fixed wiring of lighting, power, control, instrumentation and propulsion circuits with a voltage rating of up to 8.7/15kV. It also covers these same cables used in mobile and fixed offshore units.
This Standard specifies the requirements and test methods for a wide variety of cables up to and including 8.7/15kV. The cables are manufactured with low smoke halogen free materials which is an important factor in minimising the risk to human lives and sensitive equipment in the event of a fire on board a marine unit.
This Standard is complemented by BS7917 which covers the requirements for fire resistance (limited circuit integrity).
