Type 450 and Type 455 Flexible Rubber Mining Cables

The Type 450 and Type 455 cables are used as a reeling cable and trailing solution for use in industrial mining applications such as excavators, draglines and shovels. They are available with a voltage rating of between 3.3kV (example: Type 450.3) and 33kV (example: Type 450.33) with an operational temperature between -25oC to 90oC.

Both the Type 450 and Type 455 cables are available as 3+2+1 - 3 Core plus 2 Earth Cores and 1 Pilot core configurations - and in a range of conductor cross sectional area sizes. As with many mining industry cables, the pilot core is principally to provide support and reinforcement but allows for the possibility of additional monitoring if this too has a current applied.

These mining cables are robust, with heavy-duty usage anticipated, so the insulation is EPR (Ethylene Propylene Rubber) type XR-EP-90. EPR offers good dielectric strength and extra flexibility, reduced thermal expansion, and low sensitivity to water treeing. The sheathing material on the Type 450 cable is a double layer of Heavy Duty Polychloroprene (HD-PCP) whilst the Type 455 cable has a Heavy Duty Chlorosulphonated Polyethylene (HD-CSP) outer sheath. Both offer good resistance to oils, alkalis and chemicals as would be expected in around the heavy duty mining equipment they support.

This cable is manufactured in accordance with Standards Australia / Standards New Zealand AS/NZS 2802:2000, AS/NZS 1125:2001 and AS/NZS 2802:2003 as well as being oil resistant, water resistant, flame retardant and UV resistant.
