Type 409 Flexible Rubber Mining Cables

Designed for the Australian and New Zealand Mining industry, the Type 409 cable is used as a feeder cable solution for installations requiring a high degree of flexibility. It has applications across dynamic mining machinery such as pumps, drills, shovels and also in smaller applications such as handheld tools and equipment.

The cable configuration sees 3 power cores assembled on a cradle around a single pilot core, designed principally to offer reinforcement and additional strength, but which can also double as a monitoring cable where required. 

Type 409 cables are available in a range of voltages, ranging from 1.1kV (Type 409.1) through to 22kV (Type 409.22). For voltages of 3.3kV and higher, additional semi-conductive conductor and insulation screens are included, as are commonly found on Medium Voltage cables. For all voltages, the cable construction sees Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) insulation provide an operating temperature of -25oC to +90oC, and offer good dielectric strength and resistance to water-treeing. The outer sheathing is made of a heavy-duty Polychloroprene, providing resistance to oils and chemicals as well as UV and ozone resistance and flame retardancy.

Like many of the other flexible trailing cables in our Mining portfolio, the Type 409 cable conforms to AS/NZS 1125:2001 and AS/NZS 2802:2000.

Technical support is available from our cable experts and they are on hand to work with you to ensure you procure the most appropriate cable for your application. Where relevant, they will suggest alternate cables that may better suit the performance demands and environmental challenges your cable will face during service - whether that be an AS/NZS standard cable such as the Type 440 or Type 450 cable, another national standard, or international standard cable. Justification and explanation of the cross-border equivalents can be provided to demonstrate parity.
