NY2Y Cable

The NY2Y-J cables (with green/yellow core) and NY2Y-O cables (without G/Y) are Polyethylene sheathed copper cables for low voltage power distribution with a voltage rating of 0.6/1kV.

NY2Y Cable Specification

Commonly used across Europe in local mains connections as well as in industrial grid connections including switchgear, they are available in a wide range of core configurations and core sizes as standard. Designed for fixed installation, the copper conductors are Class 1 solid or Class 2 stranded and in circular or sectoral format depending on cross-sectional area size.

The NY2Y Cable is suitable for installations with a maximum operating temperature of +70oC - a higher operating temperature would require the N2X2Y cable with XLPE insulation instead of PVC.

The polyethylene sheathing provides enhanced resistance to water, oils and chemicals and offers a robust abrasion resistant layer that gives a degree of mechanical protection, but it should be noted that it offers poor fire performance, burning rapidly and emitting thick smoke and halogen gases. The NY2Y can be direct buried or placed in cable ducts, as well as being installed externally (it is UV resistant).
