The NAY2Y cable is part of the European low voltage power distribution range; a polyethylene sheathed cable typically installed externally or underground. The aluminium conductors (as opposed to the copper version NY2Y) are often specified where there the installation is unconstrained by space, or where overall cable weight is a consideration - aluminium being lighter but larger than copper when sized for parity in current carrying capacity. Primarily for fixed installations with a maximum conductor operating temperature of +70oC (as determined by the PVC insulation) the conductors are either Class 1 solid or Class 2 rigid stranded, and as circular or sectoral multicore configurations. Core identification is in accordance with HD308 S2 - with green-yellow earth cores as NAY2Y-J available as standard and the NAY2Y-O on request.
The high-density Polyethylene is a robust, abrasion resistant material capable of withstanding a degree of mechanical stresses placed on the cable. The NAY2Y cable is also UV-resistant, and so finds uses in industries including petrochemical, power stations, and renewable energy installations. They're also suitable for local main connections in energy grids. As such, they can be buried directly, installed in cable ducts, or in open air (as permitted by relevant building regulations).
