• Construction: Class 4 plain bunched Copper conductor, Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, Individually and or Collectively screened with Aluminium/Polyester (Al/PET) tape, Tinned Copper drain wire, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) bedding, Aluminium Polyethylene Laminate (APL) armour, and Polyethylene (PE) outer sheath.
• Details: Available in pairs and triple configurations, in sizes 0.5mm² and 1mm.

Our instrumentation cable portfolio includes South African design cables known as APL instrumentation with a maximum operating temperature of 105^oC. They have a voltage rating of 300/500V.

APL Cable Specification

APL instrumentation cables are commonly specified on projects within South Africa, on mining, oil & petrochemical, and marine operations where monitoring equipment is part of the set-up. The APL instrumentation cables differ from the British standard BS5308 and harmonised European standard BS EN 50288-7 cables as they have a Class 4 bunched plain copper conductor at their heart. It should be noted that Class 4 stranding sits outside of the standard for IEC60228.

APL is an abbreviation for Aluminium Polyethylene Laminate - the mechanical protection covering the armoured version of this cable. Collectively (CAM) and Individually and Collectively (ICAM) screened, these instrumentation cables are also available as unarmoured variants. 

Whilst APL cables have no over-arching standard they are manufactured to, they have an XLPE insulation and in this case a PE Polyethylene outer sheath and so reference SANS 1411.

APL Cable Sizes

Both the CAM and ICAM armoured versions of the APL cable are available in pairs and triple configurations. In both cases, configurations are available to 24 as standard, in sizes 0.5mm² and 1mm.
