Top 5 Barriers to EV Adoption | Infographic

There’s no doubt about it, sales of electric vehicles (EVs) are on the rise. But could this rise grow steeper and faster if the barriers to e-Mobility mass adoption are resolved or addressed in the near future? Here’s our infographic of the top five according to the EV100 Progress and Insight Report.

Despite the growing charging infrastructure across the globe with companies like Shell expecting to operate over 500,000 charge points by 2025, ‘range anxiety’ remains the principle concern of many. This affects the way in which both individuals and businesses alike act, having to factor in the practicalities of charging and the time it takes.

The lack of vehicle types is predominantly a business concern, with light-commercial and heavy-duty vehicles either not offering the range needed or not widely available at an affordable price point. Yet  early perceptions of EVs being smaller vehicles also plays a part for families and those looking for a roomier vehicle – linking back once again into that range anxiety.

And so to price point, especially for larger models designed for families: Projections suggest that up-front price parity between EVs and their ICE equivalents is beginning to align in some vehicle types. However it will take continued government policy supporting the EV transition to bridge the gap if we are to replicate the successful model seen in Norway where tax breaks have helped drive electric sales as high as 80% in 2022.
