UNE21123 Cable

UNE 21123 refers to the design and cross-sectional area of cables used by utilities on power distribution circuits with a voltage rating of up to and including 600/1000V.


UNE standards are released by AENOR, the Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification. As it is a member of ISO, IEC and CENELEC, many of its standards are set in conjunction with European and international conventions. 

UNE 21123 Cable Construction

There are a number of sub-sections to UNE 21123 standard covering variations on the cable construction.

UNE 21123-1 PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) insulated and sheathed
UNE 21123-2 XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) insulated and PVC sheathed
UNE 21123-3 EPR (Ethylene Propylene Rubber) insulated and PVC sheathed
UNE 21123-4 XLPE insulated and Polyolefin sheathed
UNE 21123-5 EPR insulated and Polyolefin sheathed

Cables manufactured in accordance with UNE 21123 are general wiring cables, however the different sub-sections of this standard ensures their suitability for different industries. For example, Part 5 is used widely within the Oil & Gas industry.
