British Standard BS4737-3.30:2015 was released on 28 February 2015 and covers cables used in security and alarm systems installed in the United Kingdom since 1 April 2016. This standard set out to address the issue of sub-standard cables in security systems, including burglar alarms, intercom and detector connection.
BS4737 identifies specification deviations, conductor metal content and materials. It also covers the measurement of conductor resistance and the use of compounds in fire performance versions.

BS4737 details the requirements for clear labelling of the cable type, the resistance value, and the number of strands in the conductor to help ensure quality compliance and prevent failures in security systems. It can be viewed in conjunction with standard BS5839-1 for Fire Performance cables for fire alarm systems for buildings.
