Applications Overview

Our TÜV-approved PV1-F photovoltaic (PV) cables are intended for interconnecting power supplies within renewable energy photovoltaic systems such as solar panel arrays in solar energy farms. These solar panel cables are suitable for fixed installations, both internal and external, and within conduits or systems, but not for direct burial applications.

These PV cables have an AC voltage rating of 600/1000V and a DC voltage rating of 900/1800V. Their operating temperature range is -40oC to +90oC.

Insulation Halogen-free cross-linked compound
Outersheath Halogen-free cross-linked flame retardant compound

The compounds used in the PV1-F cable's insulation and outersheath are halogen free cross-linked, hence the reference to these cables as "cross-linked solar power cables". 

Our PV1-F cables benefit from a double-insulation offering increased safety. Their Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) and sheathing make them suitable for use in environments where corrosive smoke would present a risk to human life in the event of fire.

These PV cables are ozone-resistant according to BS EN 50396, UV-resistant according to HD605/A1, and tested for durability according to EN 60216.

Solar Panel Cable Standard

There is also a new European Standard EN 50618 published in 2014 for Solar DC Cable, which specifies cables for use in Photovoltaic (PV) systems, and in particular those for installation at Direct Current (DC) side with a nominal DC voltage of up to 1.5kV between conductors as well as between conductor and earth. EN 50618 requires cables to be low smoke zero halogen and be flexible tin-coated copper conductors with a single core and cross-linked insulation and sheath. Cables are required to be tested at a voltage of 11kV AC 50Hz. 

An IEC standard photovoltaic cable to EN50618 for Solar DC cables is also available.
