Bonding Leads
Our watertight Bonding Leads have single core or concentric constructions, insulated in cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE). An additional semi-conductive layer of graphite coating is also applied, aiding sheath integrity testing post-installation.
Bonding Lead Applications
Bonding leads are designed for cross-bonding and earthing applications, between the metallic screen of a cable and the connection in the link box (buried or mounted). The act of earthing protects against sheath currents and voltage surges including lightning protection, routing to ground or to zero voltage, and the bonding system mitigates the effects of capacitive currents in the cable, which can lead to high losses, overheating, and reduced ampacity.
Manufactured so as to be based on EREC C55 (Engineering Recommendation C55 - for HV bonding leads) for insulated sheath power cable systems in Utilities supply and works, it can act as the shortest path to earth, taking into account site conditions and the location of associated current transformers and link housings.
WTC Bonding Leads
The reference to WTC is an abbreviation for Watertight Copper. This is achieved through the addition of swellable yarns placed in the interstices of the stranding of the conductor.
The Concentric bonding lead has a layer of insulation sat between the inner conductor and the outer conductor. Our datasheet references cable sizes where the inner and outer conductors are the same cross-sectional area size. Both the concentric and the single core bonding cables are available in sizes of 95mm2 to 500mm2.
