Armoured cables with thermosetting insulation - 3.8/6.6kV to 19/33kV - manufactured in accordance with British Standard BS6622
We offer a comprehensive range of Medium Voltage (MV) cables manufactured to various British, European and International Standards, including BS6622. This British Standard sets out the specifications and required tests for single core and three core armoured cables with thermosetting insulation with a voltage rating ranging from 3.8/6.6kV up to 19/33kV. These cables are designed for a maximum operating temperature of 90oC for use in fixed installations including networks and industrial installations.
BS6622 cable constructionBritish Standard BS6622 specified the following cable construction:
|Conductor(s)||Stranded copper (Class 2), aluminium stranded (Class 2) or solid (class 1)|
|Insulation||Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) Type GP8 or Cross-linked Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) Type GP7|
|Insulation screen||Extruded semi-conductive layer of cross-linkable polymer or combination of semi-conductive layer and semi-conductive tape|
|Metallic screen||Metallic screening layer of copper wire or copper tape|
|Inner sheath||Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) bedding material|
|Armour||Metallic armour to consist of aluminium (Al) wires for single core cables or galvanised steel wires for three core cables|
|Outer sheath||Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) compound or medium density Polyethylene (PE)|

BS6622 cable selectionAccording to this Standard, systems are divided into three categories in order to facilitate the cable selection and the required voltage rating. These are:
|A||Systems where phase conductors that comes into contact with earth or an earth conductor are disconnected within 1 minute|
|B||Systems which continue to operate under fault conditions of up to 8 hours (not exceeding 125 hours per annum)|
|C||Systems not falling under A or B|
Cables manufactured in accordance with BS6622 are designed to be installed in air or to be buried in free-draining soil. Consultation with the manufacturer is required for installation in other conditions.
