Distribution Network Operator Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) operates and maintains the power lines, substations and transmission equipment supplying 740,000 homes in Scotland and over 2.9 million homes across central southern England. Their network includes over 130,000km of overhead line wires and buried cable and more than 106,000 electricity substations.
The DNO-approved SSE cable specification is manufactured by G81 suppliers for connections from existing grid to new sub-main developments.
The 11kV cables for three-phase power distribution are available in either single cores or 3-core configurations (unlike UKPN and ENW who solely specify 3x1 triplex formation). The 33kV are single core cables.
All cables are sheathed in a Medium Density Polyethylene to provide a robust, abrasion and tear-resistant barrier for cable duct installations. SSE cables are manufactured in accordance with BS 7870-4.10.
Utilities cable specifications are tightly controlled with custom sized screen cross-sectional sizes - please note that they are not interchangeable with other DNO cables.
