The 318-Y / H05VV-F is a Harmonised European low voltage power cable, designed for use in domestic appliances, such as those often found in kitchens and offices. Manufactured in accordance with BS EN 50525-2-11, this cable is also BASEC-approved and CPR compliant.

318-Y is the British standard designation, individual cables within this range are often referred to according to their number of cores alongside the sheathing material reference (2 cores being 3182Y, 3 cores being 3183Y, 4 cores being 3184Y and 5 cores being 3185Y).

H05VV-F is the European harmonised standard designation which is broken down into the following:

H: Harmonized standard (BASEC approved).

05: Voltage rating of 300V(to earth) / 500V (between conductors).

V: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) insulation.

V: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) outer sheath.

F: Flexible stranded copper conductors

Outside of Europe, the H05VV-F cable is often called NYMHY cable.

With a voltage rating of 300/500V, the 318-Y cable is suitable for use with ordinary duty portable appliances such as radios, table lamps and office equipment where the potential for mechanical stresses and mechanical damage is low.

These cables have a temperature rating of +5°C to +70°C and a minimum bending radius of 8x overall diameter when flexed.
