British Approvals Service for Cables

The British Approvals Service for Cables (BASEC) is a recognised sign of assurance of independent cable testing and approval.
A non-profit UK government nominated body, BASEC has been a mark of reassurance to those specifying cable for nearly 40 years. All products are rigorously tested to meet British, European and international standards through the detailed examination of manufacturers' production processes and controls.

Underwriters Laboratories

Underwriters Laboratories® is an independent product safety certification organisation that has been testing products and writing safety standards for more than a century.
UL evaluates more than 19,000 types of products, components, materials and systems annually with 20 billion UL Marks appearing on 66,000 manufacturers' products each year. UL's worldwide family of companies and network of service providers includes 68 laboratory, testing and certification facilities serving customers in 102 countries.

Canadian Standards Association

CSA International tests for compliance to national and international standards and issues certification marks for qualified products.
Certification marks tell potential customers and users that a product has been evaluated by a formal process involving examination, testing and follow-up inspection and that it complies with applicable standards for safety and performance.

Cenelec

CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation, was created in 1973 as a result of the merger of two previous European organisations: CENELCOM and CENEL.
Nowadays, CENELEC is a non-profit technical organisation set up under Belgian law and composed of the National Electrotechnical Committees of 31 European countries. In addition, 11 National Committees from neighbouring countries participate in CENELEC work with an Affiliate status.

The IEC is the world's leading organisation that prepares and publishes International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies — collectively known as electrotechnology.
Wherever you find electricity and electronics, you find the IEC supporting safety and performance, the environment, electrical energy efficiency and renewable energies. The IEC also manages conformity assessment systems that certify that equipment, systems or components conform to its International Standards.

The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) is a leading international certification body in the fields of security and fire protection.
LPCB approval is recognised by governments and regulatory authorities around the world. LPCB approval involves assessing and testing products to ensure they meet quality standards. Approval of products, once gained, is maintained by regular audits to ensure that the product continues to meet the approval criteria.

Harmonised Commodity Description and Coding System

The Harmonised Commodity Description and Coding System (HS) of tariff nomenclature is an internationally standardised system of names and numbers for classifying traded products developed and maintained by the World Customs Organisation (WCO)
The WCO is the only intergovernmental organisation exclusively focused on Customs matters. With its worldwide membership, the WCO is now recognised as the voice of the global Customs community. It is particularly noted for its work in areas covering the development of global standards, the simplification and harmonisation of Customs procedures, trade supply chain security, the facilitation of international trade, the enhancement of Customs enforcement and compliance activities, anti-counterfeiting and piracy initiatives, public-private partnerships, integrity promotion, and sustainable global Customs capacity building programmes. The WCO also maintains the international Harmonised System goods nomenclature, and administers the technical aspects of the WTO Agreements on Customs Valuation and Rules of Origin.

The Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive became effective from 1st July 2006. Cables compliant with RoHS can be identified on our web pages by Eland's RoHS symbol.

The TÜV Rheinland Group is a leading international provider of technical services. TÜV’s mission and guiding principle is to achieve the sustained development of quality and safety to meet the challenges arising from the interaction between man, technology and the environment.
For more than 135 years TÜV Rheinland has been promoting and supporting innovation and technological progress, contributing to the further development of products, services, systems and people, and making them more competitive. TÜV Rheinland’s PV laboratory is accredited in compliance with the DIN/EN/ISO/IEC 17025 norm and listed as a certification test laboratory by the worldwide certification system of the IECEE in the photovoltaics category. In addition, TÜV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH has been qualified as a national certification body. Eland's Solar Cable PV-1 and Solar Cable Connectors are TÜV Approved.

VDE, the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies, is one of the largest technical and scientific associations in Europe . With more than 34,000 members
internationally VDE is the partner for safety and quality and has VDE Competence Centres in Europe and Asia and partner organisations in the most important cable producing countries. The globally recognised VDE mark is synonymous with the highest testing quality and safety standards. VDE covers the following technology testing and certification areas: electro technology, electronic, information and medical technology and automation.
VDE services include: safety and EMC tests, chemical product analyses, material and environmental tests, usability tests, energy efficiency, user-friendly operation manuals, inspections, management system assessments, international approval services and certifications.

Network Rail

Network Rail Standards is the generic term given to the documents that specify the requirements to help secure the safe and efficient operation of the UK's rail infrastructure.
They are the recognised method for achieving consistent processes across all Network Rail functions. They specify mandatory activities and competences needed, and also give guidance on activities to be undertaken on Network Rail assets. Network Rail standard NR/L2/EBM/029 mandates the process for the acceptance of products for use on or as part of Network Rail infrastructure. The objective of the acceptance process is to provide Network Rail with the assurance it needs that products authorised for use on the infrastructure are fit for purpose and have appropriate configuration control.

RIA also organises British industry's participation in the development of national and international technical standards for railway equipment.

They independently audit suppliers and maintain a list of approved products for use on their installations.

Electronic Industries Alliance

EIA is accredited by ANSI to help develop standards on electronic components, consumer electronics, electronic information, telecommunications, and Internet security.
The recommended standards (formerly designated as RS-#, currently EIA-#) are designed so that manufacturer’s equipment can be interchanged and compatible.
