Verband der Elektrotechnik, Elektronik und Informationstechnik – more commonly known as VDE – is the Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies and their related sciences, technologies and applications. With its headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, it is one of the largest associations for science and technology in Europe with over 35,000 members. It is tasked with promoting the transfer of technical knowledge, supporting the application of this technology across a wide range of fields and industries, and attesting to the safety and quality of products and components through its testing and certification marking.


Standards developed jointly between VDE and DIN, the German Institute for Standardisation (Deutsches Institut für Normung e.V.), are promoted under the banner of DKE, the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies.
